Mark Kao is a toxicologist graduated from North Carolina State University. He then went on to hold various research positions at NIEHS, Cornell University, Bayer, American Cyanamid, and Wyeth. He was the Scientific Director and a preclinical development leader at Janssen Pharmaceutical for almost two decades before retirement in 2020.
He is the President of Formosan Association for Public Relations (FAPR). Previously, he served as National President of Formosan Association for Public Affairs (FAPA), a non-profit advocacy organization headquartered in Washington, D.C. In addition, he was the chapter President of Taiwanese Association of America (TAA) in New Jersey, Kansas City and Ithaca, NY. He also served as the Chairman of the Board of Director for Chen Wen-Chen Memorial Foundation (CWCMF) for 15 years.
